Defaulting Sales Tax Payment May Liable to Three-Year Jail














ISLAMABAD: An individual neglects to pay deals to charge inside a due date or to consent to recuperation request is at risk to certain fine and punishment under Sales Tax Act, 1990, authorities in Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) said on Tuesday. 

Any individual who neglects to store the measure of assessment due or any part thereof in the time or way set down under Sections 3, 6, 7 and 48 of this Act or rules or requests made thereunder: 

"Such an individual will take care of punishment of 10,000 rupees or five percent of the measure of the duty in question, whichever is higher: 

"Given that, if the measure of assessment or any part thereof is paid inside ten days from the due date, the defaulter will take care of punishment of 500 rupees for every day of default: 

"Given further that no punishment will be forced when an erroneous conclusion is made unexpectedly during a year: 

"Given further that if the measure of duty due isn't paid even after the expiry of a time of sixty days of issuance of the notification for such instalments by an official of Inland Revenue, not beneath the position of Assistant Commissioner Inland Revenue, the defaulter will further be obligated, upon conviction by a Special Judge, to detainment for a term which may reach out to three years, or with fine which may stretch out to sum equivalent to the measure of expense included, or with both. "
